Our organization was designated as a nonprofit in 2015. We were founded by a local community physician who is in recovery from substance use disorder himself, Dr. Victor Archambeau. He was looking to provide more support to the community for substance use disorder and to expand his recovery process. Dr. Archambeau started with small meetings in whatever location he could find in the community. In December 2017 Dr. Archambeau invited several supporters on a trip to Connecticut to obtain training to become Peer Support Specialists and to bring the training back to the community to provide people in recovery with a potential new career. Upon the group's return from Connecticut, FAVOR Grand Strand received a donation of space to open a recovery center in Murrell's Inlet South Carolina. This recovery center was opened in December of 2017. As the organization has grown and changed to meet the growing needs of the community, it moved to its current location in Conway South Carolina in December of 2021 and changed the name from FAVOR Grand Strand to The Peer Connection to accurately reflect the service area as it expands.
